Micronet and Red Bend Collaborate on Over-the-Air Updating Service for Fleet and Mobile Resource Management

TELEMATICS MUNICH - MUNICH, Germany & WALTHAM, Mass. - Nov. 11, 2013 - Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM) with more than 1.75 billion Red Bend-Enabled® devices, announced today that Micronet Ltd., a subsidiary of Micronet Enertec Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MICT) , the premier OEM vendor of rugged, automotive-grade Mobile Data Terminals, has collaborated with Red Bend to offer fully integrated Over-the-Air Updating Service for its new Android products line, featuring Guardian System Design (GSD™). The GSD is a cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) framework that provides firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates, remote device management as well as hardware diagnostics and recovery. Micronet’s GSD delivers significant operational benefits and cost savings over the lifetime of a mobile data terminal and is the first fleet management cloud service offered by a hardware vendor. The announcement was made today at the Telematics Munich event, the largest connected car conference in Europe.

Micronet develops, manufactures and markets computers specifically designed for fleet and mobile resource management solutions and services. Micronet’s customers are leading OEM and Telematics Service Providers (TSPs) who require rugged, high quality, versatile and innovative hardware platforms that are fully programmable for independent application development and system integration. The GSD will first be deployed on Micronet’s A-300 series of mobile data terminals, including the new A-307 which features an advanced open-standards platform that supports Android and Windows CE operating systems. It enables both system software and individual applications to be remotely managed. The A-307 device architecture provides a solid and cost-effective design by simplifying maintenance tasks, significantly extending product life expectancy and lowering the total cost of ownership.

“We chose Red Bend’s OTA Updating Service for Android because of its impeccable industry reputation for delivering 100 percent reliable updates,” said Rafi Katz, CEO, Micronet. “The GSD will be leveraged to ensure Micronet’s Android-based terminals are made continuously better. Our OEM and TSP customers are developing critical software functionality including in-cab navigation, dispatching and workflow management enterprise applications. All of this software needs to be reliably updated and Red Bend’s OTA Updating Service for Android guarantees success.” Offered under private label to Micronet’s customers, the Red Bend OTA Updating Service includes the cloud-based Red Bend Software Management Center and Red Bend’s vRapid Mobile® and vDirect Mobile® client software integrated into the A-300 Series Mobile Device Terminals.

The automotive industry ecosystem is fast becoming software-centric and Red Bend is leading the way to ensure every company, from Tier 1 providers to companies offering after-market services, can successfully manage software over-the-air,” said Yoram Salinger, CEO, Red Bend Software.
